EV - Equality Virginia
The major gay civil rights watch-dog in the Commonwealth. EVand GALA have worked together to end Virginia's legal discrimination against gays and lesbians.
HRC - Human Rights Campaign
This is an important national lobbying and advocacy group promoting equal rights for gay citizens.
NGLTF - National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
This is the oldest established gay rights lobbying and advocacy group. It has a reputation for radicalism --find out for yourself!
LLDEF - Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund
Lambda Legal is the nation's leading legal advocacy organization advancing LGBT rights. Lambda Legal was lead counsel in the historic Lawrence v. Texas Supreme Court case and is involved in several ongoing cases in Virginia.
GLAAD - Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation
This is a media watch-dog group which compiles and publicizes media portrayals of gays, whether in a fictional (sit-com) or real (news story) context. They welcome feed-back and information from the public about gay media images and reporting of all kinds.
PFLAG - Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays
This is an advocacy group formed by people who may or may not be gay but whose lives are intertwined with those of gay people and who support their full and unrestricted civil rights.
